Volkswagen Art Gallery Visit

Our Funbugz volkswagen art collection was modest. On display was a variety of framed pieces from charcoal sketches to oil and pastel paintings. Then there were the mixed media sculptures including jewelry like a silver charm on a bracelet. Over time Funbugz.com will feature all that was on display plus your contributions.


You just know that Picasso would have loved the Bug. The sensual curves that magically reflect the light from front to back. If you think I’m nuts try this exercise. Close your eyes. It's just before daybreak on a cloudless morning. Parked and ready to drive is your dream Bug freshly waxed and buffed to a splendid sheen. Slide in, start it up and purr down to your dream beach. Park on the east side. Get out, step back and take in a deep breath just as the sun starts to rise. You're going to need the air when that gorgeous sun-kissed Beetle takes your breath away.

Last year we were honored to have Dan Gray, a well known painter, come to our local Bug-in.

His pastel painting captured the essence of the Volkswagen gathering. A community, from all walks of life, living their passion. What could be a more ideal subject for an artist?

For decades artists have made the Volkswagen their muse. A Bug rusting in the bush becomes a blank canvass to the restoration artist. I’m sure that every VW owner secretly thinks theirs is a work of art.

Who am I to argue? Volkswagen Art is in the eye of the Beetle.
